Maid Marian in Art

Continuing on the theme of Maid Marian, I found some works of art that show this lady from the Robin Hood legend. As you can see in these works, she’s shown in different ways.

First, we have a lovely portrait painted by William Clarke Wontner back in 1895 (image from Christies.com):

She’s more plain in this 1880 poster (no artist given on its Wikimedia Commons page):

Now she’s on a white horse as she meets Robin Hood and his Merry Men:

Again on a white horse in this beautiful painting by Gordon Napier. He has this up for sale on CafePress, on merchandise like tee shirts, poster print, coffee mugs, and wall clocks.

She reminds me of Disney’s Snow White as she becomes friends with the creatures of the woods in this painting by Ron Embleton (© Bridgeman Art Library), image from magnoliabox.com:

Finally, she picks up a bow and arrow to match skills with Robin Hood (and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games). Painting by James Edwin McConnell (© Bridgeman Art Library), image from magnoliabox.com:
