Melt into the Sky

A wish for more whiskey
and to fall into the darkness,
so I could slither out of this room
and into the night
to dissipate into the sky
where lovers walking
hand in hand on the sidewalk
could look up and
see what they wanted
to see in the stars.

For a wise one said
there is no emotion
more powerful than
falling in love —
except for love
being ripped away from you.

And when you ride
the rollercoaster of
those peaks too suddenly,
your stomach and heart
are confused as to
which way is up.

But thankfully my hand
knows where my mouth is
to direct the whiskey bottle
and help me melt more
into this couch,
wishing instead
to melt into the sky.

  1. Very nicely done. That second stanza was really really powerful.
