There Is a Song

There is a song
Our bodies sing,
And we sing it together.

A song of longing,
To no longer be alone,
A lust for presence
Rather than absence,
A desire for understanding
Rather than indifference,
A want for love,
The kind of love
That looks deep inside
The other person,
At all the things
They wish were different,
And the love
Still beats strong,
Still carries on,
Still embraces back.

There is a song
Our bodies sing,
And we sing it together.

We sing it
As our hands clasp,
As our eyes meet
Across the room,
As we say
Each other’s name,
As we endure
The entanglements of life,
As we decide upon
The thousands
Of decisions
That must be made.

There is a song
Our bodies sing,
And we sing it together.
